The climbing shelter of Astraka, is situated in the mountain Timfi in the 1929 metres under the peak of Astraka (2436m) and north of this.

The climbing shelter of Astraka, is situated in the mountain Timfi in the 1929 metres under the peak of Astraka (2436m) and north of this. It constitudes a meeting point of great deal of climbing footpaths. The trekkers having as a stop of rest the Refuge they can visit Drakolimni, the Monastery of Stomio as well as the peaks of Timfi, Astraka, Plosko and Gamila (with attitude of 2.497m, the highest peak of Timfi)

The Refuge was built in 1966 with the initiative of the Greek Climbing Club of Ioannina and the climbing team of Papigo, in view to be an alpine base for climbing and abseiling routes but also for mountain skiing in the winter months.

In 2004 the Refuge was renovated and expanded in his today form. It has the capacity to fost 50 people and it has an organized kitchen.

The refuge operates daily from the middle of May until the end of October. Over the rest months it opens after agreement with the manager mainly for climbing, abseiling and other clubs or schools.
